I would pick an airline primarily based on where I want to go and whether they serve those routes nonstop.

If you go to all kinds of different places, then I'd pick based on who has the most nonstops. I think it's probably DL from the NYC area, although I suspect UA comes in a close second and AA a not too distant third.
