SWU = System Wide Upgrade - and yess, you could use it to upgrade all your segments for IAD-BKK - it's only valid one way as long as there is not more than a 24 hour break in travel. I used one for an H-fare from IAD-SEA-NRT-BKK - the H-fare cost me about 980 RT and the V-fare would have cost about 753 RT for travel at the end of 2003-beginning of 2004. You could also buy an H-fare for one way & a V-fare for the other. I would recommend upgrading BKK-IAD instead because it's longer time in the air.
