The NYP generally publishes sensationalist garbage, designed to drive clicks/web traffic and the three independent sources are Twitter accounts, which, as we know, are infallible!
United dispatched a dirty airplane on EWRLHR, for a variety of operational reasons (AC arrived EWR around 0230 from GRB after a mechanical delay on the positioning leg from ORD) and the likelihood is, EWR agents commented that the mess was the reason for the delay and, further, attributable to the Giants. The sensationalism comes from the assertion that the Giants "trashed" the airplane (implied malice) which is not supported by any independently verifiable evidence.
It's a PR issue for both UAL and the Giants, and assessing "blame", or at least clairifyjng the situation, is complicated by the fact that they also have a commercial relationship.
At least one Giants player (Zak DeOssie) tweeted that there is no truth to any rumor the airplane was damaged or "trashed".
