I'd speculate it might relate to the weather or diversions and not having a crew who could fly legally fly because of rest periods. They would be positive space under those circumstances and I suspect entitled to fly in F before upgraders. The 150 pax in RNO waiting for a flight crew will be happy to know that the arriving flight crew was well rested and ready to fly.
Makes sense that they were Dallas based crew going to Reno to pick up a flight the next day. Seemed to be senior crew and the one next to me spent a lot of time on the AA crew app looking at flight schedules. And weather issues would have been a likely cause.
But can someone who knows comment on crew (not pilots) being "entitled to fly in F before upgraders."
