I would make the first priority in 2017 to re-qualify for Gold for 2018. Much easier with SPG than with Rewards.
It's also worth noting that you can get Starwood Preferred Guest Gold level benefits just for having the American Express Platinum card or spending $30,000+ in a calendar year on the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Credit Card.
