If you were going to be there and get your name on the reservation (as a 2nd person in the room), you could probably show your id/MR card and possibly get the points. But in general, the primary name on the reservation is the one who will get the night credits and points. But even there, per the rules, that person technically needs to be the one checking in (and in most cases paying).
Sometimes hotels don't check or care and will allow someone else to check-in even if their name doesn't match the primary name on the reservation. But I wouldn't rely on that happening all the time (especially outside NA). And a hotel could make the other party (even if their name is on the reservation) wait until the primary shows up before checking them in which could be a major pain if the primary is not planning on ever showing up.
