I believe for babies you need to go through operating carrier (at least that's how it works on AS award operated by EK) Plus outside of miles AS doesn't have the ability to ticket over water flights

The reason you cant mix and match is because each carrier agreement is individually negotiated. Typically mix and match only comes in when an alliance is involved which AS is not in one.
