Obviously I'd prefer to book as a single ticket for connection protection if possible and also think it may save on taxes.

I've searched through the Avios help but can't find anything saying that connecting flights can't be booked - and as far as I can remember have never heard that they can't be. A comparable flight is pricing up fine on ba.com using Avios there.

Any ideas what I might be missing? Any help much appreciated.
I would just go with BAEC as presently they have lower taxes than is showing on Avios for both SH and LH. This is because there is no comparable RFS with EI at the moment. Also in another thread a poster confirms that he paid approx. €50 less taxes booking over the phone with BA compared to what EI would charge on a single JFK-DUB Y redemption. The two of those could add up to a significant saving on a rtn ticket.

You will probably have to call BAEC to book this as EI redemptions are not available online on BAEC unless this has changed recently.
