In case someone is still trying to figure out how to calculate the total award available I am going to post this up!
Hello XXXX,
Maths is not easy, or is it?
It was hard to calculate the Avios total but turns out I made it too complicated! Simply follow the steps:
(We will use LHR-HKG as an example, in I class and you are a OWS/BA Silver)
Step 1: You need to find the "base Avios", which is the amount of distance you have flown. You will need to select "Blue" tier as only that will tell you the actual mileage flown in FULL FARE ECONOMY row.
If you travel in F,A,J,C,D,I,R,W,E,T,Y,B,H class you will earn 5979 miles -- any cabin bonus or tier bonus is not counted in this case. You will earn less if you fly K,M,L,N,S,V class which gives you 60% of base and 25% base if flying Q,G,O. The maximum base miles you can earn is 100% mileage flown as this is to do with "the further you fly, the more you earn" i.e. the distance you actually travelled.
Step 2: Multiply what you found in step 1 by 2x -- don't you worry about the totals yet!
Step 3: Simply go to the calculator again and select your tier (Silver) and add the total sum you get on the screen to you answer in Step 2.
(By entering your tier as "Silver" you BA will do all the work for you -- they will add the base Avios (5979) and cabin bonus (50%) and tier bonus (50%).
Step 4: Repeat for other routes and multiply the answer you got from step 3 by 2 if you will fly the route twice.
Therefore for LHR-HKG the answer should be:
Base miles: 5979 (You can tell that by looking at the full fare economy row)
Bonus miles: 11958 (5979*2)
Tier bonus and cabin bonus: 5980
The total sum is 23944 Avios for that particular segment.
Hope that helps.
