Actually it's not to do with this board. It's really a difference in language usage. Virtually no British English speaker would abbreviate BA to 'British' - it just doesn't sound right as the common usage is either 'BA' or 'British Airways'.

Similarly no British English speaker would abbreviate 'Oxford Street' to 'Oxford', whereas Americans may well do so.
