I had a lost and delayed luggage claim. I followed all instructions carefully, submitted all my receipts in a very neat and organized way for all of us whose bags were affected and had to buy clothes and toiletries in Spain, and after awhile, I started getting checks from Iberia. There was no rhyme or reason to them. They were in silly and arbitrary amounts far less than I claimed and they came at random times. My U.S. bank charged me to deposit checks in euros, but would only charge once for multiple checks, so I'd save a few up at a time, but inevitably the next day I would get another 18,70 euro check at random.
Not having luggage for two weeks in Europe was lame, but the entertainment value of Iberia's absurd compensation system partly made up for it.
