Canadian connection came form US Senator Bill Nelson, D-FL. This information is highly incorrect for reasons discussed below.

Agreed, if the shooter came from ANC, it is not possible to fly ANC-Canada-FLL.

Don't focus on the ammo, focus on the type of gun required to put out that many shots in one session.
In addition to other gun restrictions, it is very difficult to get an automatic hand gun into Canada as most are banned from legal carry in the country.

In addition to caobtage issues. The traveller would face lengthy delays on entry into Canada and entry into USA due to various law enforcement, customs, and airline inspection requirements. This would make transporting a gun from ANC to FLL through Canada extremely time consuming and not available in a single day.

The gun and the ammo can be in the same checked bag, however the gun is subject to numerous other restrictions on importation into Canada. Further the gun and ammo must be declared to CBSA on entry into Canada and USCBP on exit from Canada and entry into USA. Further the gun and ammo must be declared to the airline.

My chief concern about the inaccurate reporting and no comment from Broward County law enforcement is that the Canadian connection could have consequences for transborder air travel.

The only way he could have gotten to FLL via MSP was on Delta.
The ANC-YVR flight is summer season service only and primarily operates to handle the Alaskan cruise pax.

The Canadian consulate would have access to all CBSA information. CBSA and USCBP trade information so that between Canada and USA there is an exit tracking system.
