This is how I approached flying with my child. I waited until she was 3 years old before she could fly. Since that time, I have had zero problems when she is in an airplane. We also did a lot of pre-boarding talk to get her ready for the experience, brought food, toys, etc. to entertain her etc.

I am also a lot more patient with parents that have crying babies. I do what I can to be impacted less such as using Bose nose cancelling headphones and smiling at the parents/child as to help them keep calm too.
