I recently had a Plat+3 and checked-in using the UA app. I was not asked about upgrades for either outbound or return. Record was not auto-split nor did I get added to the waitlist. Ironically one of the few flights where I had a shot at CPU but not too dismayed as there was a distinct possibility of irregular ops.
