I booked a share code itinerary from AA with international flights operated by JL for a trip end of January. The returning trip is routed from PVG to KIX to LAX to SAN. PVG to LAX is operated by JL. The problem is that the arrival time at KIX is 16:25 and departure at 17:50. I booked the tickets one year ago and at that time the PVG was not bad for keeping on time with flights to KIX. This year things get worse. 99% of the time the flights are delayed not because weather but because of the air control. Even worse, the delay time is very likely over 1 hour and you only know the delay when waiting at the gate. I called AA and the change fee is around 1K so I decide to take the chance. What can I do when the flight is delayed when check-in is completed and I am at the gate? If I take the flight to KIX and miss the flight to US, it is very likely too late to catch any flight to US that day. Will JL pay for the hotel if the delay is not due to weather?
