Introduction Hi everyone, this is my first post and my first review on Flyertalk. The full review can be found at
http://www.thealphalion.com/2017/01/...eet-christmas/ Note: This hotel is formerly the Citigate Melbourne, newly renovated in 2014/2015. Room Stayed here as Diamond. Upgraded to Flinders Station View from Standard King Room. Warm DoubleTree cookies given on check-in. I was able to check in super early as well (10AM), probably because it was quieter in the pre-Christmas period?View from the hotel room is very good. Book this room type and don't hope for an upgrade (I think I was just lucky), the other rooms are smaller (see the floor layout). The room has a 40 inch smart TV that can do wireless screen mirroring (no need for HDMI/VGA cables). The power outlet beside the bed also has two USB ports for charging! Wifi was given through an access code (much less confusing than going through the pay-for-premium page) but wasn't very fast (about 3Mbps) Dining In contrast to earlier posts by others, I thought the free breakfast included was great. They didn't mention anything about "cold items only", only that barista-brewed coffee was $4.50 extra (there is free coffee from the coffee machine there). Diamond members get an extra slip to order extra hot items (fried eggs, poached eggs, pancakes, omelettes), but there are already many hot items available like bacon, sandwiches, scrambled eggs, hash browns and congee.I think I also got a coupon for a free drink with a main course ordered. The nightly turndown service includes 2 bottles of water and 2 small chocolates. On Christmas day I got a gingerbread man hung on my door!

Location The best thing about this hotel is its location beside Flinders Station. It is near many tourist attractions such as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Federation Square, and Christmas Square. The Melbourne Free Tourist Tram, with a stop in front of the hotel, connected me to many other attractions such as the Queen Victoria Market and Chinatown. If you want to book day tours to Phillip Island (to see the penguins) or the Great Ocean Road, the hotel concierge can also do it for you.I haven't stayed at the Hilton Melbourne yet, but for tourists the DoubleTree has a much better location. Overall I booked this room at the Hilton APAC Flash Sale rate at an incredible rate of
