Stayed here for a night the week prior to Christmas.
As it was school holiday period the hotel was full. I tried booking via the website 5 days out and it wouldn't show me the Plat rate. Gave feedback to Accor on this issue.
So I called the hotel. Asked for reservations and the operator/front desk that picked up said I could pass them my requirement. When I did, they said "we are full". So I asked them to transfer to reservations and they would know what to do.
Person who picked up was very helpful and immediately found me a Suite and an interconnecting Room. Rate was quite reasonable too. (I didn't bank on getting an upgrade so I booked what I wanted).
On the day of our stay we left Singapore very early (by car) as it is a period where immigration/customs between the two countries can take a VERY long time. We were out by 5:30am and reached Melaka by 7:45. Smooth going - but we were early.
The hotel was already thriving with activity when we reached and the porter keyed us to the lounge. We went up one floor, and then the lift came down again.
So we called the porter again to key us up to the 18th floor and he joined us. This time the lift was full and after 4 buttons were pressed and the last person wanted to key in their floor he asked that person to take the next lift: "this lift can only go to 4 floors one trip. If you select a 5th button, it won't stop there.
fancy elevators
Obviously the rooms weren't ready, but we were asked if we would like to have breakfast in the lounge - which we did.
The lounge during peak period is seriously understaffed and many tables were not cleared.
After breakfast I decided to leave my number with the lounge attendant to call me when the rooms were ready and we went for a walk. At 11:30am I got the call.
Rooms etc as described in other reviews. Both rooms received the welcome platter - but no letter. Welcome drinks vouchers received - not used.
During check-out I decided that I'd use 4 of my vouchers and logged in at the macs in the lounge. All went well and I downloaded the forms. These macs don't have adobe/pdf reader installed so I wasn't able to print them out. Had to send the email and for some reason it took 20min for the emails to arrive at the lounge attendants' inbox.
I would say for a night or two the hotel is ok. Location isn't great - but we had a car so it didn't matter. If it's your first trip to Melaka and you are there for the "old Melaka" I'd rather suggest staying at the Casa del Rio or similar.
