I assume if the toss up is between KA and MH, you're flying KUL-HKG? MH operate mostly 737s (some of which are very old inside, but a lot have new Boeing sky interiors), whereas KA is A330 with a nice interior (Business class is the same as the CX premium Y longhual seat and regional J seat, which is perfectly acceptable for a 3 hour hop.

An interesting option is also Malindo Airlines. They fly once a day on a new 737, and offer a reasonable looking J class for around £150. Their parent company is Lion Air.
