Passenger access to the cockpit while flying (for pictures?)

I flew AF business class over the holidays (Vancouver to Paris to Zurich and back). I was surprised on both Transatlantic legs that flight attendants were taking passengers into the cockpit -- I'm assuming to take pictures, since they all had cameras or phones in-hand.

This was on a 777. I was seated at the front, and could plainly see them go beyond the curtain with the "do not enter" sign (where the 2nd up-front lavatory is) and then see the cockpit door open and them go inside. There were 2 or 3 people or small groups who did this on the YVR-CDG flight, and at least 8 or 10 on the flight back.

Is this a regular practice? I've never seen it happen on other airlines (not since 9/11, anyway). I can't imagine this is allowed by US FAA regulations, but maybe the rules are different when flying into/out of Canada.
