Nothing's changed. Split off the one person, and keep you and your son together. Gives you more of the benefits without needing agent intervention.
Remember to give everyone great seats (no middles) so in case two are upgraded the last has a good seat.
Something like: ABC DEF - then place flying partner in A, son in C and yourself in D.
