They will happily book those tickets for you, but they cannot do it on one PNR. It's not a matter of policy or something that asking for a supervisor will help you with. DL (and every other airline I'm aware of) cannot book you two different tickets on the same PNR.
The only exceptions I'm aware of are children's fares (all six of them left), and the AMEX companion certs
