Charging prices based on what the market will bear is one thing. Couching fares as taxes is quite another. This is exactly the sort of shady practice that legislation or legal action ought to take on.
Why is it the role of government to protect travelers from the lack of their own due diligence - and let's remember feds already intervened and airlines in Canada MUST show ALL-IN pricing - the fact some airlines break down charges on detailed receipt has NO bearing on final price shown in the first instance.

I suppose argument being made here is Canadians are morons, and gov't should prevent such morons from taking responsibility for their own purchase decisions. Dumb it down to the lowest common intellect, if I can summarize.

And how does the term "carrier surcharge" (def. to charge an extra fee) in any way denote a tax of some form. Exaggerate if you wish, but I for one do NOT want more tax dollars spent on protecting Canadians from themselves.

But of course, fill your boots and try to get a class-action certified - first you need to get past the Canada Transport Agency if they rule against you, then to Federal Court, appeals too, plus Supreme Court of Canada for good measure - good luck...
