But yes it's definitely more "sad" than "odd".
And trust me Jon, I'm well aware of how close it was... it was all over the news with regular updates back in the day, quite the drama.
I don't find it at all odd that AA doesn't have much nonstop service from North America to a *A hub. (Of course, no other oneworld airline serves any non-hub airport from North America.) AA has one flight a day to AMS (up from none before the merger), 2-3 a day to FRA, and, as you note, one a day to MUC, so it's pretty in line. I think that CDG is a much bigger destination than the other three.
