If the battery of your mobile device overheats and/or catches fire while it's charging (which is not unheard of, see the whole Galaxy Note 7 fiasco), you will notice it immediately if you're using it. If it happens while you're asleep, well, I imagine that would be a problem, especially if it happens in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Well I charge it all the time and just slide the phone in the seat pocket. I will let the forum know if someone tells me otherwise or asks me to stop charging my phone on board.
