Alaska doesn't fly to YYZ (Toronto) and the drive is about 40 hours. I think you guys are thinking of YVR (Vancouver).

A flight from YYZ-SEA & SEA-YYC can be had for ~350USD which I don't think is too bad. It is 5 hours on an ERJ-190 in Y on the YYZ-SEA route. A J class 1 stop can be had for ~660USD/person.

You can get a pretty cheap onward flight to SEA on Air Alaska, I've done this before when there was no SEA availability, or a hire care from YYZ to SEA can work too.
