I noticed this as well. Very funny when you see the number of seats available and by day end it's roughly the same.
I think ultimately for Air NZ grabaseat is a tool that allows them to see what price the market will bare without messing around with long-term fares.
I'll also second the other person who said there was more sales than ever in 2016. Most of my fares were booked via. grabaseat (leisure trips) and I managed to hit nearly 20 roundtrips because of it. Must be at least a little grateful towards them for that
