I had issues with paypal payments earlier (not on tickets though). I understand your paypal account is linked to your debit card? That being the case, I would suggest calling your bank to find out if any paypal initiated transaction has been denied. Sometimes the automated fraud prevention software flags certain transactions as suspicious and they are blocked.
