Well, I wasn't judging, I have absolutely no issue with using stopovers in this way to minimize cost, but in this scenario "illegitimate" (perhaps the wrong term) refers to exactly, literally, what you wish to do (and I think no one on this forum would hold that against you, in fact I have done similar itineraries (not with DXB as the target "destination" however, but same principle, in fact I'm about to complete such an itinerary with my next EK flight in 2 weeks)).
