As consumers, we're not going to commission these sorts of studies out of our own pockets. And any findings are going to be confidential by the companies that do.

We can discuss opinions here, can't we?
Where have I said it does no harm? I don't say either way and have not done any kind of a study outside of the Alaska Airlines arena that it either harms or helps. I just say I like the name and logo and say they should keep it. It has history. It is associated with good. Sure, in a smaller geographical area, for now. That is my opinion.

And I agree with Bears assessment that Southwest started in a small area (geographically much smaller than Alaska has) but they kept the name and now it is known nationwide and even outside America.

But I don't state things as fact as some here give the perception that they are doing. I try not to say things like the names doesn't hurt them, I say things like I don't think the name hurts them. But some are blatantly saying, as if they know it as fact, that the name hurts them.

So opinions and discussion? Yes, by all means, but if you present things as fact, you better have something to back it up. So state that it is your opinion and why you think that way, then we can have a nice friendly discussion. But to state something as fact and diss anyone who does not agree is not a discussion of opinions, because there are no facts about Alaska's name throughout the USA, that I know of.

And something that would help people understand where your opinion or statements are coming from, maybe we should all state where we reside.

I live in the Bay Area of California. I am going to try switching to Alaska Airlines, for the most part because of the merger. Alaska just didn't have the route structure before to meet my needs. With the merger it now comes much closer. And no, I have never been on a VX flight, as alone, they did not meet my needs either. I stuck to United because they went everywhere I needed to go. But I have been looking for an alternative as United only seems to care about their Global Services (top tier, revenue based status for those that don't know) and it was getting more and more frustrating flying them. I have known about Alaska and their reputation for customer service and on time reliability for years, but as I said they did not go where I needed, until now and I associate the name with that customer service and reliability.

So that's my story and why I have the opinion I have about keeping the name.
