As stupid as it sounds, surge protectors only work until they stop working, then they are useless. Yours could have burned out it's surge protection a week after you plugged it in and you would not know it.

It's probably definiatly a power issue, static, bad grounding, over or under voltage, etc.Tracking it down won't be easy at all.
