With respect to travel, I just put a different plug on the MacBook's power supply and there's no need to use an adapter.
My Asus uses an ordinary PC power cord, thus is grounded. I have a one of those 3-pin-to-2 adapters in my bag--and have yet to use it. Abroad I always just plug it into the needed adapter and plug that in, the third pin goes beside the adapter. Note that this is a very beefy laptop, well beyond what most people choose to carry.
