I carry a temp/humidity gauge around with me ... and can well relate to the experiences above trying to get actual room temp down to <70 and humidity up to 40%+.
By & large Hilton seem better at having units which:
a) Work,
b) Are reasonably understandable to operate, and
c) Actually allow Temps lower than mid day in the Sahara.
But yes, its a constant battle to keep temp low enough overnight if it one of those places with some default heat setting (or 'off' after an hour).
I shudder to think how many stays I've called on m'tce to get A/C set to work for my wishes ... but Hilton brand seem happy to help (as opposed to some Accor properties). One of the few times all else failed the guys at a Hampton N of LA unscrewed the windows for me, so they each slid open 6 inches or so.
