Mrs. cbc812 and I will be flying LAX-SYD in a couple of months with our infant son. We've booked 29E & 29F (EC center bulkhead) for the outbound and return with the intention of using a bassinet (SkyCot) for our little guy.
I am currently GUC waitlisted, hoping to have my wife ride up front so she can rest when not feeding, but have noticed in pics available online how the SkyCots tend to dominate the bulkhead wall. It would seem that the bassinet would at least marginally impact my would-be seatmate in 29E should the UG go through.
My question to anyone who has experience with SkyCots on this aircraft is if that is indeed the case, and whether it would be advisable to withdraw the GUC in order to avoid giving 29E an unpleasant surprise on a long flight.
Thanks in advance for your help and/or derision. Cheers!
Yes, we flew in those exact seats with a bassinet on LAX-SYD. It does indeed somewhat limit the space for all three seats in the row, especially the middle seat. I think it would be kind of rough on 29E. We sat in 29DE and had a stranger in 29F; I don't think the bassinet really impinged on 29F.
However, we found the bassinet to be more of a pain than it was worth because they made us take our baby out every time the seatbelt sign went on, which was of course always once she was finally asleep, and taking her out woke her up. (I can't remember for sure whether it was VA or DL that was more insistent about the child coming out when the seatbelt sign came on; we took VA SYD-LAX and DL ok the way back. I know that one was worse than the other; probably VA because they generally turn the seat belt sign on less often but follow it more rigorously when it is on.)
