Look. I said I never expected anything more than a room upgrade to the next level. Heck, even Holiday inn Express will make the effort and give me a nicer room on award stays if availabavailable. I think when hotel is half booked and have plenty of rooms available giving a room upgrade to a "deserving" member shouldn't be a big deal at all. It's just a poor business practice and will be reflected in a review.

To add a bit more insult to this, I received a welcome drink card as the "high valued member" and on it it clearly states benefits like newspaper, late check-out, welcome drink AND a room upgrade.
