You could try emailing the hotel directly to see if there is a cash upgrade offer. I asked nicely for an upgrade to Club level with my 3 free nights, and was offered club access with an upcharge of ~$90/night. I am RC Platinum via SPG but I don't think that matters.
Interesting. I will try this as I have a vacation coming on July. Do you mind saying which RC you're going ? I plan to use my certificates in Orlando RC.
