Not worth turning this into an argument about which chain gives fluffier towels to which elites. The point is that the specific benefits are published and therefore known and that you can't compare apples to oranges.
Thus, how you earn points vs. how much rooms cost in points and the features you care about all matter and all lead to the having to examine the programs in which you participate and which you choose for specific purposes.
Complaining that you did not get an upgrade when you full well know that you do not qualify for one is not worth the bandwidth consumed to post here. You knew it, you booked it and you got what you paid for. That is the definition of good value.
There are some properties which do UG and there are others which don't. There are some which will sell one for a fee. Not sure if you checked.
But, the bottom line here is that we all make choices and you made one.
