So is best practice to book one ways rather than multi city since some partners don't release first space until 7-14 days prior to travel? Problem here being you lose the "excursionist perk".
Depends a lot on the itinerary you are trying to put together. Booking as one ways can cost a lot more miles than if the computer shows availability for through routes allowed by routing rules.
The degradation this thing caused takes a while to really sink in.
Last trip, I just bailed on it altogether and used different program miles. Sad thing is they were much more flexible as a nobody in their program compared to the way United ties my hands as a 1K.
For me, this is a fundamental game changer.
