Just bumping this thread, because I have a little issue to resolve before year's end. Hoping some folk have experiences to share before time runs out.
Situation: brother in law has some Alfursan miles he doesn't want to use, so I bought some more to round the account up to 60,000, in order to make a one way ticket on SV from Muscat to Frankfurt. Tried to make a ticket in my name and found it impossible, seems I have to be nominated and accepted as a 'family member'. Tried to sign up online for Alfursan, but kept getting errored out (I guess the original Arabic version works better, for this IT is awful).
Resolution: have sent the service center an email with my details, in order to create an account, just in case I need it. However, if you look under the FAQs in English language, FAQ no. 29 clearly indicates it is possible to make a ticket for friends but that it has to be done by contacting the service center. Have written a concise but clear email for brother in law to send, stating exactly what we want, with all my details plus the routing along with exact dates and flight numbers.
Data point: ringing the call center yielded interactions with perfectly pleasant agents, none of whom really knew how to deal with the Alfursan programme and most of them suggested contacting the service center by email. Hope I can work this one out, otherwise I threw away SAR900 (EUR230) on that miles purchase. Trouble is, most of the other miles expire at the end of December. Have asked in another thread if points.com purchases are in any reversible (surely not).
