I received a notice that there was a > 8 hr schedule change to my award reservation (made after the rules changed) and I was able to call in and change the second segment to another flight with the same origin and destination on the same airline (Avianca). I just called 1-800-united and told the CSR which flight I wanted to change to, then she put me on hold to have her supervisor put the change through. FYI
