I have done upgrades Y-J in the past by paying the price difference with the lowest being around £550 ish from PEK-GLA which gave me full benefits so not much difference from what rumbataz was quoted.

My own personal opinion, EK could at least give lounge access on these check in upgrades. CD I can understand, but at the end of the day, lounges are there for J & F and status pax and surely must have the expected capacity of full cabins plus the extra status pax.
