If it was a tire change that caused the pilots to get to their clock-out time, then it was a mechanical delay. If I was in this situation I'd use my card insurance to reimburse the hotel and then milk that 25% off coupon. If you're credit card has any sort of delay insurance, that's the route I'd recommend.
