2) People who say that for them, this has been the hair that broke the camel's back and marks the end of their consumer relationship with BA;

3) Those like me who say that this lowers the value of the BA proposition and will lead to them choosing alternatives on a significant proportion of their flights (e.g. in my case, BA got 80% of my LGW flights in the first half of 2016, it has 0% of my existing LGW bookings for the first half of 2017 and lost a significant proportion of my connecting flights in all classes);

If the 1) type is overwhelmingly dominant, or if competition chooses to lower its own offer in response, then BA will benefit from a greater margin and thus profit and will be happy with the chance. If 2) and 3) types represent a significant proportion of customers, then as you say, people will not pay more to fly BA, which, as BA will not want to fly empty planes, will result in lower yields and/or flight reductions on some routes and BA (and for that matter customers) will lose out. We should have some first indications within about 15 months, and clearer ones in about 27.
Disagree. I think the majority of people on this forum are type 4, i.e Would never travel economy in any case so doesn't really affect them much.

It's just a really dumb thing to do to a brand. When you've spent 30 years building up a brand based on being a "full service airline" to trash that overnight is a really stupid business decision. Not quiet a Gerald Ratner, but not far off
