Whether OP will have success in phoning Aeroplan and getting them to honour that with a free change to the flight he wants is another matter, but it's an option.
I was successful recently changing 4 J seats from YVR to YYZ due to a change from the 789 to a 320. I have no idea if reward space was available or not, the agent just made the change. The change was free and didn't cost me an IKK spot.
