I would want to know a whole lot more about OP's use of those accounts and where he is located before making a sweeping statement such as that.
Air carriers have a pretty broad ability to shut down accounts as they see fit.
A case to fight for your miles/points.
I've never flown AS as of yet. But I opened an account since I am a VX flyer. I will transfer points in due time once it becomes available. I just transferred SPG points to my VX account to pad my future balance. Do they have the power to close or freeze my account? Sure, it is their program, but you bet I'd have a case to fight them if they did that. I have not violated any rules.
