You are not doing anything wrong or illegal by doing this. It is all within the rules and there is no reason why AS should punish anyone. You would have a case against them if they did. If they feel the need to close a "loophole" for "bonus" miles, then they can do that. But, until and if they do, there is no harm in using your SPG points as allowed by the program.
I agree with you completely. Had this been any other airline, I wouldn't have asked.

AS is famous for closing accounts and not listening to the customer citing the point in t&c where it's written they can close any account whenever they seem appropriate. I have heard of several cases where they said as the victim never flew with AS and doesn't live in a market AS operates in, they can close the account as he is not using it as a "frequent flyer". Two of theses cases (of 2015) are in FT.
