Why are both YUL-LAX today YUL-YYZ-LAX?

After many years of promising myself never again to fly over the Christmas holidays due to crushing security and customs lines, bad weather, frequent cancellations, lack of close parking to the airport, flight delays, etc., the family and I are throwing caution to the wind this year and flying YUL-LAX on Boxing Day.

Wife hates to fly. Wife really hates to fly.

Wife especially hates surprises when we fly.

(Like the time we flew EWR-CDG and somewhere over Newfoundland she noticed from the flight map (the first person on a full 767 mind you) that we had turned around to fly back to EWR. A long 15 minutes later the Captain announces one of the engines is not capable of flying over the Atlantic and we were returning to EWR. Those were the roughest 15 minutes of my life. But I digress).

A happy wife means a happy life, I always like to say.

I noticed that today, YUL-LAX has become YUL-YYZ-LAX for both the morning and afternoon flights. I have never seen that before.

Is that for refueling due to wind? After the EWR-CDG saga, I need to give my wife at least 48 hours notice of all possible flightplan changes. She is a bit like the FAA that way.

Many thanks for the information. My wife thanks you too.
