Sorry not sure on adding a stopover, but actually it doesn't help anyway since your SYD-SAN bit is still longer than SAN-LHR.

Remember for LHR-XXX/YYY-LHR the distance for XXX to YYY must be shorter than LHR-XXX and YYY-LHR.

What about using a GUF2 and a joker instead of the Amex voucher.... is that possible for journey 1? It'll more avios I'm sure but at this point direct flight and and exact dates would be a real benefit!

Plus I can use the 3rd joker I didn't know I had with the Amex voucher and book trip 3...
