Buddha not for decoration! I remember seeing those signs as well. I've never tried to take one back but did pick up one from a thrift store in Fort Lauderdale, of all places, that looked like it came from Thailand.
For those in the know it might be worth looking around the street and back a block or so on the west side of the Saphan Khwai BTS station on Saturdays and Sundays. Lots of amulets and little statues there. Mostly Thai-oriented but they'll probably sell to you. The stretch of Phahon Yothin from Saphan Khwai station to the corner where the weekend market starts has been productive in the past and has lots of oddball possibilities, though too many farangs have paid too much for certain things and the mentality has deteriorated.
But OTOH IMO the Weekend Market has long been WAY oversold as a tourism attraction and the most valuable thing for many people is a newfound appreciation that at least it's not that jammed back home. Most people and especially newbies would be better off at MBK.
