This is a new account, so no history with amex. I have the Amex Business Gold for ~5 months, but never have any charge > $2500. Are you saying it will work if I prepaid and wait for it to clear/in my Amex account? I won't need it until mid Jan, so waiting for it to clear is not a problem.

Use the prepay method as a last resort.
I want to take advantage of the 1.5x point on purchases of >5k.
I don't mind paying in advance, just want to be sure that when the time come, I can charge to the card s 5500 purchase.
