If I'd have to answer it, my guess would be that they seem to have a pretty efficient airport design: 5-6 terminal completely unconnected on the surface, so that planes can taxi in either direction to I believe 4 parallel runways. I'd also think that weather-wise Atlanta has a slight advantage which hopes throughput.
